Our volunteer tutors attend a no-fee, 12-hour training that takes place over four evenings. Tutors learn about our mission and how to teach and motivate adult learners to read or to improve their reading skills, math skills, and/or improve their English-speaking skills.
Volunteer tutoring is done on a one-to-one basis in a public place—most often a community library in the town nearest the student. All services are free of charge to the student.
If you are interested in becoming a volunteer tutor, you can submit the tutor training form on-line. If you would like more information about becoming a tutor, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org
We have several tutor trainings throughout the year. Please email us if you are interested in attending and we can reserve a space for you.
Volunteers are also needed to label books, help at events, read to children and work at our Book and Treasure Store. Please email us for information.
The Ionia County Literacy Council Board of Directors recruits new board members from a diverse array of community members, including those with expertise in finance, marketing, fundraising, law, business, entrepreneurship, education, and human services; former literacy council tutors and students; and community members-at-large.
If you are interested in joining the volunteer board of directors, please complete an on-line board member application. If you would like more information about becoming a board member, please email us at email@example.com
