Volunteer Opportunities

Our volunteer tutors are trained to teach adult learners how to read or to improve their reading skills, improve their math skills, and improve their English-speaking skills. Volunteer tutoring is done on a one-to-one basis in a public place -- most often a community library -- or in small group settings.

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer tutor, you can submit the tutor training form on-line. If you would like more information about becoming a tutor, please call us at 616-527-1360 or write to us at P.O. Box 288, Ionia, MI 48846 or email us at ionialiteracy@gmail.com.

Our next FREE tutor training is scheduled for September. The 12-hour tutor training will be held in four 3-hour sessions, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. each evening (participation is required at each session). The dates are as follows:

Tuesday, September 6

Thursday, September 8

Tuesday, September 13

Thursday, September 15

The training will be held at the Ionia Michigan Works building, located at 307 W. Adams Street in Ionia. Please call to reserve your space. Seating is limited.

Also, watch our Calendar of Events for additional upcoming tutor trainings.
