Our volunteer tutors attend a no-fee, 12-hour training that takes place over four evenings. Tutors learn about our mission and how to teach and motivate adult learners to read or to improve their reading skills, improve their math skills, and/or improve their English-speaking skills.
Volunteer tutoring is done on a one-to-one basis in a public place—most often a community library in the town nearest the student. All services are free of charge to the student.
If you are interested in becoming a volunteer tutor, you can submit the tutor training form on-line. If you would like more information about becoming a tutor, please call us at 616-527-1360 or write to us at P.O. Box 288, Ionia, MI 48846 or email us at ionialiteracy@gmail.com.
We just finished a tutor training in January 2013 and plan to have another one this spring. Please email us if you are interested in attending and we can reserve a space for you.
